Zach Toppin is an artist that immediately caught my eye with the style of the work produced by them. His work reflects his own personal beliefs of gender, emotion, and love through the use of symbols and narrative elements. They have studied art history in Edinburgh and fine art at Camberwell College of Arts and have several shows with both solo and collaborative art in galleries all the time (the most recent as of writing this is the TIN MAN ART show in London).
The main thing that drew me into his art was his style of painting. Of course, the first piece I see by them is a frog, so that is a good way to gain my interest. But besides that, the artist has such an interesting approach to painting that aligns with my interest in the medium. Painting hyperrealistic artworks has its place, however, I feel like artists who try to champion their own style and create paintings with interesting shapes, characters, lines, and objects that are more painterly often produce the most interesting artwork to see. The marks he makes on his paintings are just so pleasing to look at and shows their mastery of the medium. These artworks are meant to provide symbols and to make objects in the paintings stand out in order to tell a story about sexual identity. What a cool style of painting that I cannot wait to see in person.
